Summer Travel: Goals and Expectations

A couple days ago, I received an email from Thrifty Traveler that Greece is officially open to foreigners (yes, US citizens too) for summer. I jumped out of bed declaring “I’M GOING TO GREECE” since I am a hop and skip away being in Istanbul. I am pumped at the prospects of travel this summer friends.

Last summer was spent down in the dumps watching the world have a massive “pizza party” that no one wanted to attend. And I know, I know, the pizza party is still going on and some people are more affected by it than others; however, I will not sit back for another summer and be depressed. My mental and spiritual well being depends on summer reviving my soul and spirit.

Summer is MY time. I spend the whole year thinking and planning what I want to do, where I want to go. I work my butt off to save up money for travel and make sure I have no loose ends or responsibilities to attend to for two months of bliss and freedom. I am a simple person who enjoys the pleasures of wandering around strange places, sitting seaside, lounging around, hiking, and eating sinful food. That is all I ask for, and I will not pass up the opportunity this year.

My plans for this summer are to take advantage of my geographical location. I am living in Istanbul for the moment, and I want to explore my surroundings/Mediterranean. I also hope to see more of Istanbul/Turkey because my experiences so far have been walking to the market and the walls of my apartment. Perhaps a long weekend trip is in store for the coming months if restrictions and curfews are lifted?

What are your hopes and plans for this summer? How do you think vaccinations will play a role? I am pretty sure they will be the critical factor for most countries in terms of reopening for tourism. All my research points in that direction.

I sincerely wish that we, as a collective, have a more fruitful summer that is filled with adventure, quality time with family and friends, and restoring our hope for the future.

Death to the pizza party!!!

    1. How wonderful! I hope you get to go. I haven’t decided on Greece or Croatia to be totally honest. I am leaning more toward Croatia in hopes it won’t be as busy if I go before school lets out. We will see! I am so hopeful for all us travel bugs to have a fruitful summer.
